Many of them were abandoned or abused.
TWINKLE came to me as an 18 week old puppy with the worse case of demodex mange I've ever seen. We were able to treat her and she found a loving wonderful home. But due to her compromised immune system she developed a severe case of uncontrollable seizers and had to be put to sleep.
The below 6 akitas were left abandonded in the woods in Marshall Country, MS. These poor dogs were chained to trees, left in wire kennels with no shelter or shade. The owner had over 30 akitas and pitbulls. With the help of many dedicated rescue groups, a and very generous vet we were able to save Mia, Kiyo and Blaze. Unfortunately due to the lack of socialization and poor living conditions, Arhtur, Lance and Gwen had to be euthanized.
